I have other blog posts about my Step 1 experience, NBMEs, dedicated schedule, best resources, and how to stay sane while studying for this exam. That was the best thing I could for myself at this point. I tried to get my headspace in the right place. I had a few more days of studying and reviewing to do then I took the day before my exam off. Both companies have similar vast Q-Banks however Kaplan is the more cost friendly option at this time. Of course, I still had doubts that I would totally bomb this exam. I’ve heard that these set of questions are very predictive of actual Step 1 exams scores. Also, there’s no score report generated from these questions. These questions can be found here and the correlation which was made from someone on Reddit can be found here. I was doing less Uworld and more reviewing of First Aid. At this point, I had one week left until my exam. I thought about pushing back my test date after this exam but was so tired that I knew I couldn’t do a few more weeks of dedicated. While it was easy to get upset that I wasn’t as close to my goal score as I wanted, I tried to find comfort in that my scores weren’t trending the opposite way. I knew I had put in a lot of work and tried my best. USMLE Step 1: Practice Questions & Test - Medical Quality Is Our Obsession - Start Your USMLE Step 1 Prep With UWorld Since 2003, nearly all medical students in the United States have trusted UWorld to prepare for their licensing exams. medical students in 2017-2018 was 230, I was content with this score. Anyway, a 239… Given that the average Step 1 score for U.S. I forgot to save my score report for this one. Hopefully, by giving you some real, average scores to reference to, you’ll restore some confidence in yourself during this difficult time. Throughout my time studying for Step 1, I was repeatedly discouraged from reading about how people would have these incredible practice exams scores. Lastly, I wanted students to have scores to reference to that are not from people scoring >270, at the beginning of dedicated. So, I wanted to offer some inspiration to those starting off in a similar place. I started off with an almost failing score but ending up with a score a few points from my goal score of 250. It was also important for me to share these for those who are going through the process now. The USMLE® Step 1 is a licensure exam that assesses medical students’ understanding of scientific concepts foundational to the practice of medicine. Especially with Step 1 becoming pass/fail next year, these numbers will mean absolutely nothing very soon! Finally, taking practice tests every 2-4 days leading up to the exam will also help you improve your endurance so that you are able to focus for 8 hours on test day.In this post, I’ll be sharing my Step 1 practice exam scores! Initially, I was a little hesitant about posting them because I know how hard one can be judged on an exam score! BUT, I feel that as medical students, we are SO much more than these numbers. Also, you will get more out of your practice tests and have more representative scores if you save them to closer to your exam date. The total number of items on the overall examination form will not exceed 280. The number of questions per block on a given examination form may vary, but will not exceed 40. I like this method because it gives you time to learn the material in the beginning without the pressure of having to do well on practice tests. It is divided into seven 60-minute blocks and administered in one 8-hour testing session. The final 4 weeks are then dedicated to practice tests every 2-4 days and TIMED, mixed UWorld blocks on the days you are not taking or reviewing practice tests. This is meant to grow and solidify your knowledge base. The first 3-4 weeks are dedicated to reading through all of First Aid, watching/rewatching all of Pathoma, and doing subject-specific 20-40Q UWorld blocks daily on Tutor mode. Then I have them take practice tests every 2-4 days. For example, if a student has 8 weeks of designated study time for Step 1, I'll have them take their first practice test around week 4. I always recommend students to save all their practice tests towards the end of their designated studying period.
